Solid State Ionics
Solid State Ionics, being a multidisciplinary area, is expected to grow at a faster rate leading to the discovery of new materials and invention of devices, and also help in optimizing the known devices, especially the portable power sources, electric vehicles, large scaleenergy storage and display systems. With the continued depletion of oil resources worldwide and increased consciousness about environmental protection, the research on fuel cells and advanced batteries has been receiving a great momentum in recent years. Topics like ionic conduction in Li, Na, Ag, Tl, F and O-containing compounds, ion conducting polymers, gels and glasses, and nano- phases and nano- composites will be pursued. Materials and device aspects especially in the areas of lithium ion batteries (LIB) and solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) will receive wide coverage. Other important topics like ion dynamics and theoretical modeling will also be covered. Knowledges about Solid State Ionics will be popularized in this column.
